The theme of the journal is Northeast India, and we publish work that is based in or on Northeast India or ties in with the region in some way. If the theme is not clear in your submission, please share some context that could help us understand the association.
Currently, we only consider pieces written in English. Any work you submit for publication (poems, personal essays, short stories, art, photographs, or Little Stories) must be unpublished and your own. This means that your work must not have appeared in print or online (including your blog).
To submit a piece of writing, please paste it in a Word document (doc. or docx.) with Calibri, font size – 11pt. All submissions must have a cover letter included in the body of the email consisting of (1) a line or two about the piece(s) you are submitting for consideration and (2) a confirmation that the submitted work is not plagiarized and was not created using any AI tools or technologies.
Submissions that don’t adhere to the guidelines will not be read.
Send up to 5 poems pasted in a single Word document. Poems should not be longer than 60 lines each. We accept all styles of poetry except micro poetry.
Send up to 3 pieces of flash fiction (of no more than 1200 words each).
Send up to 3 personal essays (of no more than 1200 words each). We are looking for unique story lines and pieces that immerse us in its details. We would love to read are anecdotal essays that may tell a favourite family story (that’s been passed on through generations), a childhood memory of school, or even an account set by a forest, lake, or riverine. We are not looking for cultural, political, or satirical essays.
Send up to three travel essays (of 1000 or fewer words). We are seeking literary travel pieces of first-person account that convey a sense of people, place, time, and space. We would love to read pieces that focus on a specific incident or experience from a trip instead of a day-to-day account of a travel experience.
We are not looking for destination reviews or “why should we visit XYZ” marketing content of any kind.
Send up to 8-10 pieces of art, photographs, or illustrations as individual jpeg attachments (no larger than 1 MB). For photographs, we’re seeking black-and-white as well as color photos that provide a different perspective on the world around us or tell a story.

For example, if you are submitting three poems, write “3 Poems | Jonaki Daimary.”. If you are submitting pieces across categories, mention both categories. For example: “2 Poems and 1 Photo Essay | Jonaki Daimary.”
